Author Cheryl Cooper encounters a captive audience
This fall’s launch of Come Looking for Me, Cheryl Cooper’s new work of historical fiction during the War of 1812, has been met with many demands for her to speak – to Rotarians, Probus Clubs, book clubs, people attending launches in Muskoka and Toronto, women in shelters, and students in creative writing classes. But among her most remarkable encounters have been two sessions with prisoners, at the Beaver Creek and Fenbrook institutions. Cooper’s book is all about imprisonment, and her discussion with men serving time proved to be a rare experience for all concerned.
